Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology is the branch and specialty of dentistry concerned with the diagnosis, nature and primarily non-surgical management of oral, maxillofacial, and temporomandibular diseases and disorders, including dental management of patients with medical complications. Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology are two applied components of this specialty.

What is an Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine Practitioner?

Practitioners of Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine are Dental Specialists who have successfully completed formal advanced education in Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine or oral medicine or oral pathology and hold such specialty designation from the Alberta Dental Association and College. Oral Medicine and Pathology Practitioners can help provide a diagnosis of unusually oral defects or diseases. By the use of examination and/or biopsy, oral pathologists can help identify any unusual appearances within the oral cavity.
